This page explains, in plain language, how Note a day handles personal information. Note a day is provided by Ash Kyd (contact: ash@kyd.com.au).
The short version
Note a day doesn't store your notes or any personal information on its servers. Your notes live on your own device, and are encrypted before being synced to a storage provider you choose — Google Drive, Dropbox, or S3. The copy on your device itself is not encrypted by Note a day. We never see the contents of your notes, and we don't hold accounts, passwords, or note data ourselves. The only information we collect is standard web server log data.
What we collect and store
The Note a day web server keeps standard access logs — things like IP address, request time, and browser user agent — for security and troubleshooting. We don't collect or store your notes, your storage provider credentials, or any other personal information.
How it's collected, and where it's stored
Server logs are generated automatically by the web server whenever the site is accessed. Your notes are stored locally on your device, and encrypted with a password only you know before they're synced to the third-party storage account you connect (Google Drive, Dropbox, or S3). The local copy on your device is not encrypted — it relies on your device's own security (disk encryption, screen lock, and so on) rather than Note a day. If that's not an acceptable trade-off for you, this isn't the app for you. The synced copy in your third-party account is encrypted; Note a day never receives or stores either copy.
Why we collect it
Server logs are used only to keep the service secure and running reliably.
Use and disclosure
We don't disclose server logs to third parties, unless required to by law. Because your encrypted note data is stored entirely within your own Google, Dropbox, or S3 account, its handling is governed by that provider's own privacy policy and terms — not ours. By design, that data is owned by, and the responsibility of, you.
Accessing or correcting your information
Since we don't hold any personal information beyond server logs, there's generally nothing to access or correct. You can review or delete your notes at any time directly through your connected storage provider. If you have questions about our log data, contact us using the details above.
Overseas disclosure
Note a day is hosted in Australia, and our server logs stay here. Your notes are stored wherever your chosen third-party provider (Google, Dropbox, or S3) stores them — that location is set by your account settings with that provider, not by us.
